High School Drop Out Rate Declining for Hispanics
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
According to a fact sheet published by the Center on Education Policy (CEP),
the percentage of 16 to 24 year olds who drop out of school has been
decreasing steadily since 1972. The CEP data indicate a 4% decline in the
percentage of youth who were "not enrolled in school," "had not completed
high school," or "did not possess a general education development (GED)
certificate" in the 24-year period between 1972 and 1996. When broken down
by race, their findings show a 14% decline in the drop out rate among Black
youth, and a 5% decline among Hispanic and White youth. For more
